vermillion post 3
In order to make it through each day of trial, I took in-depth notes, drew illustrations and notated sounds. A murder trial is not like you see on television or a movie. The trial was unorganized, chaotic, dry and uncomfortable. The exhibition concept came to me at the end of the trial. I decided then that I had to try to create something positive and beautiful out of this tragedy.
I will be painting objects of evidence that made an emotional life imprint on me. These images are my interpretations of evidence that I saw or heard about through the trial. We have all watched and listened over the years to true crime stories. I felt like I was in a surreal nightmare watching and listening to strangers discuss my dead sister and discuss things like shoes and tape and guns. Beneath all the evidence, I felt and witnessed the refusal to grasp the impacts and ripples of gun violence.
